Your marriage license is one of the most important documents you will need in order to get married. There are so many details and variables that go into the application process. This month, we are going to focus on the where, when and how long it takes to get a marriage license for your upcoming Big Day!

What You Need

The essentials for applying for your marriage license may be one of the simplest tasks you have to cross of of your list. Most states require your a valid photo ID (i.e. driver’s license) and social security number. If you are under 18 you will need your birth certificate. If you have previously been married or are widowed, don’t forget to bring along the divorce decree or death certificate.

Destination Wedding

If you are having a destination wedding you should check with that local marriage bureau to double check on what requirements that state, or country may have. Some locations require your birth certificate, a blood test, or even a Visa. Depending on where you are going you may need to translate your wedding documents as well.

Application Fee

Check to see if your local court accepts cash, checks, credit cards. Be sure to double check before you go to see what forms of payment are accepted during the application process. You can expect to pay anywhere from $80-$100 depending on your state and/or prior marriage.
