Use Lighting Design to Enhance Your Event

When organizing any event, be it a wedding, bat mitzvah, office party, or more, there is a lot that you need to consider. From the music to the food, it can be overwhelming, especially if you are not experienced in event planning. One crucial yet often overlooked aspect of event planning is the lighting.

Lighting can transform your space and determine the atmosphere of the crowd. So, you are going to want to get it right. Wenning Entertainment is here to help!

Why should you settle for the lights that come with your meeting place or banquet hall? Leave those boring and harsh fluorescents behind. Flat generic lighting is not the look you want, and something as simple as a monogram or company logo can impress guests from the minute they arrive. Our fun and interesting lighting design can also be a lot cheaper than larger decor displays.

With lighting design from Wenning Entertainment, you will be able to transform your guests’ experience into a night they will never forget. Creative and mood-enhancing lighting offers your guests an elegant and fun environment where they can relax, have fun, or concentrate on the topic at hand.

Our designers will consult with you to determine how best to achieve your desired look or theme. They also are skilled in reading the room and will adjust lights and colors based on the mood. With their extensive knowledge of the latest available lighting products and features, you can be sure that your space, no matter the size, will have the ambiance you envision.

A Wedding Bill: What Do You Think?

After working in the wedding business for almost 30 years, our resident wedding expert Eric Wenning thought he would have seen it all. However, what this newlywed couple did was definitely a new one he had never seen before. These clients actually billed their guests for their dinner because they did not show up to the wedding. We want to know your thoughts on this wedding bill but first, a little context.

The Situation

This bill was sent to two no-show wedding guests after they confirmed through RSVP. But on the actual day of the wedding, they never showed up. Weddings can add up fast, especially for those couples who are paying for everything primarily on their own, this was a blow. This particular bride and groom were stuck with an extra $240 bill.

What Should You Do If You Can’t Make It?

If you have never been married or been a part of wedding planning before, you might not realize just how much the price per guest is. Most weddings can cost anywhere between $100 – $200 per person. So if you as a guest are just giving a $50 Amazon gift card as a wedding present to the one you didn’t show up to, that’s a little cheap and tacky.

So think about that difference when you are gift-giving. If you have to do a no-show, always remember: be polite, be courteous, and send more money to cover the bride and groom’s expenses.  Remember, they wanted you there on their special day.  Keep the gravity of that decision in mind when choosing your wedding gift if you can not make it.

Do you think that charging people for a no-show is warranted, or do you think it’s a little tacky? Let us know what you think!

Avoid A Generic Wedding With These 3 Tips

No matter what your style or aesthetic is, one thing is the same for every couple who is getting married.  Everyone wants to avoid a generic wedding!  But coming up with new ideas is hard to do with just the two of you.  That’s why this week, the experts at Wenning entertainment are sharing some of their favorite ideas on how to mix things up.

Food Trucks

Firstly, take a break from the norm and hire food trucks for your cocktail hour! Instead of cheese and crackers, why not try a gourmet treat.  Tons of food trucks are now popping up in every city.  With so many different trucks to choose from, you can have anything that suits your taste. Mini pizzas, breakfast food, tacos, and so much more. Have fun, be unique and support a local business!

Personalized Bouquets

Next, you can personalize each of your bridesmaid’s bouquets! Your bridesmaids are all unique in their own way, why not reflect that in their flowers? The options are endless.  Pick their birth month flower or flowers that match their hair or eyes. This will give some uniqueness to your color scheme and really make your bridal party feel special. This personalized touch will help you avoid having a generic wedding.

Pick a Scent

Finally, give your wedding a memorable “Scent” . Pick a candle or fragrance that you and your partner love and light some candles to make your ceremony match! Afterwards, whenever you and your guests smell that scent, you all will be brought back to your big day!

Have you seen any other cool wedding ideas? Let us know in the comments, and for more tips like this, check out our other posts. We will see you next week!

Unique Wedding Venue Inspiration

The easiest way to add some uniqueness to your wedding is by playing with different venue ideas. Sure, loads of people get married at beautiful barns and hotels. But to make your wedding stand out, you’ll need to think outside of the box. Take these three ideas from our experts at Wenning Entertainment as inspiration to find your perfect and unique wedding venue!

A Zoo or Aquarium

An uncommon, yet excellent place to get to share your vows and get up and close with nature. The lush greenery and beautiful scenes that can be found at zoos and aquariums will provide the perfect backdrop for all of your pictures. And most already have specific rooms for events and gatherings so if you’re an animal lover, try looking into your city’s zoo or aquarium to hold your wedding!

An Orchard In Bloom

Make your outdoor ceremony stand out by holding it at an orchard. Go during the right season, and the trees will be in full bloom, creating the most picturesque location you’ve ever seen. With the right photographer, these will be some of the most beautiful pictures you will ever take!

A Unique Wedding Venue Special to You!

Everyone has at least one place that holds a special place in their heart and their relationship. It could be a first date location, where you got engaged, or another place you both hold dear. Lots of places have areas to rent out, so every time you revisit this location, it will remind you of your big day!

Wherever you choose to have your big day, just make sure that it’s special to you.  Always use your relationship as inspiration for everything from your vows to your unique wedding venue!

Unique Wedding Ideas Part 1

Let’s face it; no one wants an average run of the mill wedding. The very best weddings are the ones with unique features.  The more you personalize different areas of your wedding to you and your spouse, the more special it will be. That’s why this August we are focusing on unique wedding ideas to make your special day stand out!

Hire a Painter

Our first idea has become a very big trend this season and that is hiring  a wedding painter! Photos and videos are great, but what about wedding memorabilia that you can display on your mantle? Talented painters can capture your venue, ceremony, or even first dance and leave you with a one of a kind keepsake. Support a local artist that you love and get a romantic painting that you’ll cherish forever.

Unique Wedding Decor

Next, you could incorporate your vows into your decor! Reciting your vows is one of if not the most personal and romantic parts of your wedding. Now, I know what you’re thinking: How on earth am I going to do that? There are tons of lettering specialists that can display them in your reception venue on walls, centerpieces and more! This will affirm your dedication to each other, and serves as a personal touch for those who maybe couldn’t hear you during the ceremony.

Unique Color Palettes

There are a handful of tried and true wedding color pallets out there to choose from.  But if you wanted to personalize your celebration even more a great idea is to incorporate your birth stones.  No matter the gemstone, incorporating elements of your birthstones into your color scheme will add a subtle but personal touch to your big day!

The best way to make your wedding unique is to keep things personal.  Think about what elements of you and your spouse can be incorporated in not just the ceremony but every part of the wedding day. Whatever you decide to do on your big day, keep it personal and you’ll be happy.

Does Your Top Pick Live Too Far Away?

The minute you get engaged you might already have someone in mind to be your best man or maid of honor.  It happens all the time.  You make a pact with your roommate from college or your childhood best friend to choose each other for those big roles but then life happens.  People move out of state and you have to ask yourself: do they live too far away?

Is Your First Choice Too Far Away?

Whenever talking about who your best man and maid or matron of honor is, it’s best to pick someone local.  Generally, for all of the responsibility and jobs they do, an out of state maid of honor or best man is just too far away. For example; if you’re planning a wedding in Pittsburgh and your first choice for the job lives in Florida or California, it will be very hard for them to plan all the different aspects locally while they live out of state.

Also, when you are choosing who is going to have this big role in your wedding you have to consider that everyone has their own lives going on too.  Things are going to be more difficult for them to venture off and plan when they aren’t in the same state as the vendors they are trying to coordinate with.  So be cautious when choosing a person that lives out of state. Think about the planning process for the wedding shower or the bachelor and bachelorette parties. It makes the job so much easier to tackle when you are in the same city you’re planning the event in.

Consider Their Needs As Well!

Those people who do live out of state though do not have to be completely excluded! Whether its as a guest or another member of the bridal party, there are more ways than one to make your loved ones feel included in the wedding without overwhelming them. Maids of Honor and Best Men have so many extra duties that they are required to do.  Make things easier on yourself and your loved ones by picking someone convenient.

How To Choose Your Maid of Honor or Best Man

Wedding planning can be such a fun and unique experience if you have the right support system.  Organizing bach parties, coming up with fun themes and having all of your friends and family come together are some of the best parts about a wedding!  However, this can turn sour if you don’t have the right Maid of Honor or Best Man at your side to help you with everything.

How to Choose?

There is a lot of responsibility wrapped up in being a Maid of Honor or Best Man.  It truly isn’t a popularity contest. You want to make sure that whoever you put in the position of Best Man or Maid of Honor are the ones that are the most responsible. We see this all the time! People put their party animal friends in place of someone accountable.  Sure you have this crazy shared experience hangover style with Rob but will Rob black out during the reception? You love them and maybe the party animal friend will make a great groomsmen, but you have to ask yourself: do I trust them to be responsible?

What Makes A Great Maid of Honor or Best Man?

If you are new to wedding planning, a maid of honor or a best man has a lot of responsibility.  Between planning and organization and a whole mess of other financial obligations.  The planning process with the right maid of honor or best man will be a fun and fantastic time! But, if you pick the wrong one, the added stress will be nothing to joke about. The best person for the job is that reliable “mom” friend of the group.  The one that is financially stable and always shows up on time.   Make sure whoever you pick can live up to the expectations of that high title!

why two videographers

Why You Need 2 Wedding Videographers

[us_separator]

Wenning's Wedding Tip Wednesday

[us_separator]

Having a videographer for your wedding will put the motion to the memories so that you can relive them whenever you like. But, have you ever thought of the reasons why you may need 2 wedding videographers to fulfill your video dreams?

Here are some reasons why you need 2 wedding videographers:

Having more cameras is a safer option! You never know when a battery could die, the memory card is corrupt, or a guest could stand up right in front of the couple’s first kiss. So, if any of these things happen, no they don’t! You have another videographer recording from a different angle getting the shot.

Both videographers will be capturing things differently. One will have a wider lens to capture the crowd’s reactions. The other will have a tighter lens that helps get the close-ups and reactions. Put these together and you get a beautiful, cinematic wedding video.

When there is more than one videographer there, there is a chance that they could capture more unique or riskier shots that could end up being beautiful.

Hiring two videographers will make your wedding video more comprehensive. Videographers are not superhero’s and can’t be in two places at once, so don’t be stuck picking between the moments you want to relive.

These are some examples of some things you may have to choose between:

  • The bride and groom getting ready

Most likely, the videographer will be with the bridal party capturing their mimosas and hair and makeup sessions. That means while the groom and groomsmen are hanging out and getting ready, no one will be there to film them. This is where the second videographer comes into play

  • The first look or the ceremony location

Now, one sounds more important than the other, but filming the venue before the guests arrive is essential. The venue sets the tone for your wedding film and it helps the videographer get the audio prepared so that you’ll be able to hear your vows. Be sure you don’t have to pick between the first look and clear audio

  • The decision between the bride’s entrance or the groom’s reaction

This is obviously one of the biggest moments of the day, so having both of these moments captured is very important! You don’t want to have to choose, so it’s better to have both

Having more than one videographer is so important too because anything that can go wrong usually does.

wedding videographer prices

Wedding Videographer Pricing Breakdown

[us_separator]

Wenning's Wedding Tip Wednesday

[us_separator]

Wedding videographers are an essential part to the biggest day of your life, but how do you know if you’re getting the biggest bang for your buck? This breakdown of wedding videographer prices makes it easy to understand how and why they price their services!

Some basics:

ALL videographers price their services and packages differently

The average cost of a wedding videographer in the U.S. is $1,800, but the average range is between $1,000-$2,500

Prices can go up to $12,500 for a luxury videographer that can take your wedding and turn it into a quality, TV-ready star for the day

That’s a lot of money we’re talking about here, so what is included in the cost?

This is depending on what YOU want! The great thing is, is that you can work with your videographer to create and personalize your package to your wants and needs.

One more factor to consider is that between June and October, prices will run higher because it is wedding season during that time.

Packages usually include how much time you will get the videographer and staff for, but you can always request extra time. Extra time can cost around $200-$500/half hour. This is to pay for their time and their assistant’s time, extra editing, and video cards.

Extra services like drone footage or travel expenses can add additional costs as well.

What you’re really paying for is the final product and what goes into it

First and foremost, the videography service! Make sure your videographer matches your style so that the final product is everything you could have ever imagined and more

The post-production is something that people usually don’t consider either. This process is the most time-consuming part of making your dream video. Sometimes the videographer lets you make your own edits, but that could be an additional cost

Your final wedding video is the whole reason you even got the videographer in the first place. Your video will most likely be provided to you on a DVD, Blu-ray, or USB drive. Sometimes, a highlight reel may also be made for your video, and it can be made easily accessible via YouTube or Vimeo.

The last thing included in your cost is your videographer’s equipment. You only want the best for your wedding, and videographers only want the best equipment for their business. You are paying to use their high-definition cameras, lighting equipment, etc.

The last cost established with videographers is tipping and how much you should tip them. It is recommended that you tip the lead videographer $50-$100, and if they have an assistant, $50-$75 is acceptable.

Getting the BEST Out of Your Wedding Videographer

[us_separator]

Wenning's Wedding Tip Wednesday

[us_separator]

It’s not a secret that you can get the best out of your videographer on your wedding day. Now, how to get the best is a different story. You may think you don’t know where to start or what questions to ask, so these are the basics of how to get the best from your videographer.

There are some things you and your videographer need to talk about! Tell them what moments that are the most important to you and your partner

You may be thinking “everything!!” but that can’t be the case, unfortunately. So, curate a list of moments such as the first kiss, cake cutting, reception venue, etc. Be sure to be open and honest so you can relive what you want to and not think to yourself “there’s something missing here.”

Depending on how many videographers you have, they can’t be everywhere at once, just like you can’t! So, if you only have one videographer, they will ONLY be following you and your partner, OR they start scrambling when there’s a dull moment so that they can shoot details, exteriors, and other details.

Letting your videographer know exactly what you want can be crucial to the wedding video of your dreams. The more you can help them out by knowing what you want, the better the final product will be.

Now you’re probably thinking “so they told me the first step, now how do I go about hiring a videographer?” We have the answer for you! At Wenning Entertainment, we provide you with a planning service, and you can hire them for a FULL EVENT!

Other tips for hiring a videographer:

  • If you’re going for a specific look, don’t be afraid to ask for samples! You have to know what you’re paying for before you purchase something as meaningful that you’ll have forever.
  • See if your vendor has any recommendations for videographers! Now this may depend if they have a preferred or exclusive list, but if they don’t they may have people that you may not have heard of.
  • Finding someone who has experience with your venue is essential for a great wedding video! If your videographer already knows the lay of the land, lighting, acoustics, etc. of the place, then your video will turn out amazing!

Wedding Video

Do I Need a Wedding Video?

Wenning's Wedding Tip Wednesday

[us_separator]

Wedding videos may not seem like a big deal, but don’t worry, they are. And they aren’t important for just one reason; Many things that happen at weddings can’t be photographed!

You can’t hear the most intimate part of the wedding ceremony happening

The vows! The vows are so important, and just looking back at pictures may not be enough. You might want to hear them and be fully immersed in the moment, and the best way to do that would be on video.

The toasts are another thing you won’t be able to hear with just photos

Remembering what your little sister said, or how your big brother told you that he loves you on your wedding day is something you may not get to hear every day. Weddings bring families closer together, so remembering what they said during their toast may be a really nice thing to have in the future. Or they might even do an insane rap that can only be captured on video. Sick beats don’t pick up in pictures!

The dancing during wedding receptions is so special

Everyone comes together to celebrate the newlyweds, and it’s just magical being surrounded by love. But you can’t capture the true emotion of people dancing in photos. The first dance as husband and wife is so special, so getting it on video is going to be something that you can look back on forever. And you can always pretend it’s the first time hearing your first dance song again.

Since you’ll be there on your wedding day, you might not think about a video. But what about the people who aren’t there?

  • Given the times we live in, grandma or Aunt Susie may not want to come and risk their health to join the celebration.
  • Having a wedding video made is perfect for your relatives or friends who couldn’t be there on your big day.
  • Sending them your video wedding video will make them feel like they’re there celebrating with you! Spread the happiness and joy with those you hold close but can’t be close to you.

All of these points are important to consider if you are on the fence about a wedding video. The most important thing to remember is how you felt on that day, and now with a video you can relive those moments for eternity, or till the DVD snaps in half!

Buying a wedding gift

When to Buy a Wedding Gift

[us_separator]

Wenning's Wedding Tip Wednesday

[us_separator]

I have a quick quiz for you before the article begins, so True or False: It’s okay to give a couple their wedding gift for up to a year after their big day (the answer will be revealed later).

Anyways… SEND THAT GIFT!! Couples already have enough to worry about on their wedding day, so don’t bring a gift that they need to keep track of.

Buying a wedding gift

The perfect timing

As for actually buying your gift, it’s recommended to do it as soon as you receive the URL to the couple’s registry site! This is usually about 4-6 weeks before their wedding date. Getting on the site ASAP will help find a gift that suits your budget, and you might even be able to find something with a special meaning. Sometimes, the couples are even relieved because that is one less thank you card they have to write after the wedding.

Buying your gift closer to the wedding date can have some kinks to work out. In this case, you should send the gift to the couple’s preferred address. This could mean their new home if they plan on moving, or even moving someone into the other’s place. Sending the gift to the preferred address will make it easier on them because you’re giving them an exciting box to unwrap instead of another box to pack.

ANSWER ALERT: It’s false! You absolutely do not have a full year after the wedding to send the couple their gift. Try to get it in the mail within 3 months of the wedding date. If you’re finding it hard to get a gift, give cash or a cash equivalent instead.

Buying a wedding gift

The gift of cash

Speaking of giving cash, this is a total no brainer, but picking the perfect time to give it can be tricky. You could always bring it to the wedding and put it in the card box. Doing this, you risk the chance of it getting lost in the fast-paced environment, or some sicko could steal it. Other, and safer, options for giving money could be picking a gift card for a retailer on the couple’s registry site. This is a good alternative to a bad gift or just cash. Another option could be contributing to the couple’s honeymoon fund, cash registry, or home improvement fund.

If there is one thing to take away from this article, it’s to get the gift early send it right away.

Things wedding guests care about

10 Things Wedding Guests DON’T Care About

[us_separator]

Wenning's Wedding Tip Wednesday

[us_separator]

I know how important it is to impress your wedding guests on your big day, but the amount of things that your guests DO NOT care about will shock you! There are a few things that you should put your time, effort, and money into, but some things you don’t need to splurge on. Here are the top things that your wedding guests do not care about, A.K.A. where not to spend a lot of money.

Things wedding guests care about

The invitations (shocking, I know)

Invitations end up in the garbage or recycling bin way faster than you would think. So, instead of splurging on them, there are cheaper alternatives! Try getting them made at Target, Walmart, Shutterfly, or you could get them handmade by a small business on Etsy.

Things wedding guests care about

Wedding programs

Does this need an explanation? There a thing of the past, so leave them there.

Things wedding guests care about

Top-shelf alcohol

Let’s be honest, at weddings, people don’t care what alcohol is available; they care if it’s free and if there is a lot of it! There are more affordable ways to stock the bar for your big day. You could pick the option that doesn’t include top shelf alcohol, or you could try the option that’s just beer and wine if your guests aren’t picky.

Things wedding guests care about

Crazy escort card displays

They make a great photo opt for your guests to get pictures for their Instagram’s, but other than that, they’re really unnecessary and can become an extra cost.

Things wedding guests care about

Extra amenities

Some people put so much into decking out their entire venues, even the restrooms, but don’t do that! Keep it simple and have things people might actually need like a bathroom amenity basket or personalized napkins because your extra efforts may go unnoticed.

Things wedding guests care about

Aisle décor

Your aisle décor really depends on where your ceremony will be held, but your venue may not need a ton of décor for the knot tying. Sticking to highlighting the alter or arch may really compliment the place without costing you extra.

Things wedding guests care about

The linens

Listen, does anyone really pay attention to the tablecloths at the reception? I know I don’t! At the end of the day, you won’t even want those tablecloths, runners, or napkins that you paid extra for. As long as they match the color palette and are pretty, your guests won’t care.

Things wedding guests care about

Bouquet toss

Now this one is up to your personal style, but they’re old fashioned and the trend has been dying out in the recent years.

Things wedding guests care about

Wedding favors

Please, please, please do not give out engraved champagne flutes or custom candles, I beg of you! Those are a thing of the past, and they should also stay there. Try doing something like sweet treats for after the reception, those are always great. Or, you could even donate the money put towards favors to a charity of your choice, and that will definitely be a widely received gesture.

Things wedding guests care about

Long ceremonies

Keep it short, keep it sweet, and keep it simple. Guest will be so excited to watch the couple profess their love for each other since that is the whole point but keeping the ceremony around 30 minutes or less will keep everyone happy!

Wedding Invitation RSVP

How to Reply to an RSVP

[us_separator]

Wenning's Wedding Tip Wednesday

You must be new to the wedding scene, welcome! The first thing you need to know is what does RSVP even mean? Well, RSVP means répondez s’il vous plait, or respond if you will, in French. These are sent back to the bride and groom to confirm your acceptance or denial of the invitation that they sent you. There are some basics that you can find on all RSVPs, but how they come sometimes looks different.

Wedding Invitation RSVP

The Basics of RSVPing

All RSVPs are set up, generally, in the same way:

  • Include your first and last name and your plus one’s first and last name (or whoever will be coming with you).
  • Your response, if you are happily accepting or regretfully declining
  • The number of guests attending (weddings rely on head counts!).
  • Your entrée selection, you want to eat right? Make sure to include your initials next to your selection along with your guest’s choice and initials so your meals don’t get mixed up!
  • Respond to any special prompts the couple may give you- this could be song requests or anything else that the couple might ask of you.
  • Follow the instructions the bride and groom gave you! This can include when to send the RSVP back, or if there is an alternative way to RSVP.
  • Send those responses back ASAP (refer to the latter part of bullet #3)!

Wedding Invitation RSVP

Types of RSVPs

There are many different forms of RSVPs. You have cards, invitations with no preprinted RSVP card, online, or even by email. Cards are the most popular type of RSVPs to send out. They come with your invitation, so make sure not to miss it! An important part of the RSVP card is the “M” line. The M line is designated to the first letter of your formal salutation (Mr., Mrs., Ms., Miss). There are also invitations that don’t come with RSVP cards and that’s okay, don’t be alarmed! Usually, the bride and groom include instructions on what you should do from there. For example, they might have a website to RSVP on.

RSVPing on a website sounds intimidating, but it’s the modern thing to do. The couple will provide you with the right URL to go to and you can access that on your preferred browser. Depending on which website the couple chooses to use, they generally have the same layout as the printed versions, so don’t sweat it! If this isn’t the option they chose either, then it may be sending your RSVP as an email.

Wedding Vendor Stability

Wedding Vendor Stability and RED FLAGS

[us_separator]

Wenning's Wedding Tip Wednesday

[us_separator]

It’s almost the end of 2020 and there is ONE WORD that really defines whether you are in or out as a business, and that word is stability. Wedding planning is difficult enough. Wedding planning in 2020 has been a mountain for brides and grooms everywhere. How can you foresee if that company you talked to a month ago is still even in business? It’s so vitally important for you to research your vendors to see if they have been able to hold down the fort through this pandemic, and what their plans are to excel in the future.

Stability Equals Experience

Wenning Entertainment has been around almost 30 years. We’ve gone through highs and lows, and we had the experience to withstand this past year and come out on top. Can the same be said for other vendors? Vendors who have only been around a year or two might not have the backup plans and security to offer the same great service they once did. Look into these companies and be sure to ask the hard questions. How have they handled their business this past year? What have they learned about the changing tides now that weddings, or any large gathering, are looked at very differently this year?

Stability Equals Estate

Where is your vendor located? In a private office space? In their parents’ basement? Consider where your vendor does business. This could be relative to their strength in the industry. Now, you can’t fault businesses that don’t need a standalone office. However, for the businesses that should have an office, observe this vendor and if they try to hide the fact that they lack one. This could lead to the hiding of even more information.

With that, we here at Wenning Entertainment want to wish you and your family a Happy New Year! Take this time to enjoy those around you and reflect on all the positive moments of the year. Now you can look forward to a happy married life and hopefully a covid-free wedding reception!

Wedding Vendor Transparency

No Vendor Transparency? That’s a RED FLAG!

[us_separator]

Wenning's Wedding Tip Wednesday

[us_separator]

If you’re shopping for vendors, you’re bound to come across one with a lack of transparency. Wherever you go, there are good eggs and bad eggs. More than likely, this is your first wedding and you’ve never had to deal with event vendors before. That means it’s vitally important for you to do your research to determine what makes a good vendor, or you’ll be left with that bad egg! This week’s tip is all about a lacking vendor transparency!

Where is the Vendor’s Meeting Place?

Are they proud to show off their offices? Do they have a place that you can meet besides the Starbucks on the corner? Now, you can’t fault businesses that don’t need a standalone office. However, some businesses should. Observe this vendor and if they try to hide the fact that they lack one. They could be hiding even more information.

What does Vendor Transparency look like?

In your meeting, whether on the phone or in-person, are they answering your questions directly? Could you say that they are “an open book,” explaining all their pricing details and any future fees?

Or…are they holding back? Are they beating around the bush? Maybe they are pivoting from your question immediately and only discussing what they feel they want to disclose. Write down all your questions beforehand to avoid being carried away into their sales pitch. If you end the conversation without all your questions being answered, it might be time to move forward with a different option.

Happy Holidays!

With that, we here at Wenning Entertainment want to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas! Take this time to enjoy those around you and reflect on all the positive moments of the year. Now you can look forward to a happy married life and hopefully a covid-free wedding reception!

No Work Gallery

No Work Gallery? Wedding Vendor Red Flags!

[us_separator]

Wenning's Wedding Tip Wednesday

[us_separator]

Whether it’s through photos or videos, what do you do if there is No Work Gallery? Wherever you go, there are good eggs and bad eggs. More than likely, this is your first wedding and you’ve never had to deal with event vendors before. That means it’s vitally important for you to do your research to determine what makes a good vendor, or you’ll be left with that bad egg! This week’s tip is all about a lacking work gallery!

No Work Samples? What’s That MEAN?

How can you pick a vendor if you can’t see any of their work? Especially their RECENT work? It’s 2020. We can’t expect all vendors to have a hefty sample of recent work, simple because there WERE almost no events this year! That being said, any professional, trustworthy company is going to have work samples from previous years. Don’t dismiss those! Across the board, this is what vendors are going to be showing off since their 2020 events were postponed or cancelled.

How Can You Compare Vendors Then?

What’s their social media look like? When’s the last time they posted? Consistent posting, especially if paired with past or present work examples, is a smart sign that the company is still in business and is thriving.

Companies are always going to be proud to show off their work. Their website and social media pages should be full of references so that you can visualize what your wedding will look like. If this is not the case, think twice about pursuing the vendor.

Keep these tips in mind when you’re comparing vendors, and you’ll be able to visualize your wedding through their work examples!

Intimate and Informal Weddings

[us_separator]

Wenning's Wedding Tip Wednesday

[us_separator]

In the next months to come, you will start to see a large increase in Intimate and Informal Weddings. Weddings occurring on weekdays and other personal touches will give all the guests a change of scenery then traditional ways.

Brides and grooms are continuously looking for unique and creative ways to custom their weddings. There are many ways to accomplish this; however, as we look at Wedding Trends for 2020, one thing is certain, customization is not going away.

It is time to say goodbye to your formal wedding outfits, brides and grooms are now choosing to go with the more intimate and informal weddings.

As of lately, weddings are occurring on all days of the week. There will always be weddings on weekends but don’t be surprised to see some weddings during the weekdays to come.  Brides and Grooms have also been opting to dressing more casual during the receptions. We believe this to be that people no longer want to be in their dress clothes for a long uncomfortable duration.

Expect to see a lot of new venues that you wouldn’t think would usually have weddings at. This has become a new trend as more people are trying to change things up and be more creative personality then a formal wedding. Standing out and being unique has turned rather popular lately as the newlywed couple wants everyone to remember their wedding the most.

Today a lot of people don’t really care what people are wearing or where the location is. As long as all their friends and family are there, then they seem to be satisfied. This will be one of the most memorable nights of their lives, the bride and groom aren’t going to worry about what shoes people are wearing.

Do I Really Need A Professional Photographer?

[us_separator]

Wenning's Wedding Tip Wednesday

[us_separator]

There are a lot of misconceptions about weddings and how they should be organized because you overheard someone talking about a cheaper alternative.  This month we will be debunking different myths about the planning process. Do I Really Need A Professional Photographer?

Is hiring a Professional Photographer to capture photos at my wedding absolutely necessary? Why can’t I just take the photos or have a family member do it?

Professional Photographers are doing more than just walking around snapping photos. They are providing you with high quality photos while using the latest techniques. Additionally they have the resources and knowledge to edit these photos to produce the best work possible. This isn’t just a hobby to them, this their career and passion that they take seriously.

Photographers have also been trained to make adjustments while taking photos. This could be when there is poor lighting or if the weather conditions aren’t good while taking them. Their objective is to make sure that there is a countless amount of beautiful photos.

You don’t need a “DIY Photographer” capturing this special day. Putting a friend or family member in charge will not be able to capture the photos you’re looking for. Most likely they don’t have enough experience to do this and don’t know the several techniques to make sure the photos turn out professionally. Plus, they most likely don’t have access to the programs to be able to edit the photos like a professional.

Since you’ll be looking back on these photos for the rest of your life, always go with a professional photographer. This is not an area that you want to cut corners on and hire an amateur.  There are plenty of affordable professionals out there that will able to take amazing photos for your special day. Just do some research and ask to see the professionals portfolio before hiring them so you know what to expect.

Reception Layout Tips: Pros of the Reception Seating Chart

[us_separator]

Wenning's Wedding Tip Wednesday

Pros of the Reception Seating Chart

[us_separator]

Here are some pros of having a reception seating chart!  An absolute must for your special day!

All month long we will be discussing tips for selecting seating arrangements to help layout and explain how to seat guests at your wedding.

This week we will be talking about the advantages of having a pre-planned reception party seating chart.

There are multiple pros as to why you should have a reception party seating chart.  Planning everything out in advance will help alleviate the stress when it comes time for the big day. First figure out where everyone is going to sit and who should sit next to each other. Some good advice would be to not place people at the same table that are known to have a prior history. For example, you don’t want to put your dad’s new girlfriend at the same table as your mother.  Even though you want to put your parents at the same table to be close to you, this is recipe for disaster and can be planned out differently. There is plenty of space to sit everyone accordingly without any problems.

Keep this in mind also, if a table seats eight, it is okay to put seven or even six guests at that table.  It doesn’t have to be even across the board, just makes sure that it looks somewhat even and makes sense.  Don’t have one side of the reception packed with people leaving the other side looking bare. This will allow your reception dinner to be filled with all your guests celebrating your wedding without any drama taking place.  Just make sure that everyone is having a good time and that it is memorable.

Reception Layout Tips: Skip the Singles Table

Wenning's Wedding Tip Wednesday

Skip the Singles Table

[us_separator]

Singles tables are awkward and outdated! Here are some tips on how to properly seat singles!

All month long we will be discussing tips for selecting seating arrangements to help layout and explain how to seat guests at your wedding.

This week we will be talking about how and where to seat singles at your reception party!

Let’s start with talking about the elephant in the room, the singles tables.  This is a very difficult part of seating for your reception.  How do you include these people without making them feel isolated from everyone else?  You want to try your best to make them feel as least uncomfortable as possible.

Try to find another way of integrating singles into another table without making it obvious.  Seat them with people that may have the same interests, or age groups.  Maybe they already know people there so it would be easy to squeeze them into that table.  Keep in mind, just because they are single, does not mean that they have to sit with other singles.  Having an all singles table may make them feel left out or that they are the extras at the reception.

Everyone already knows who is single there anyway, so don’t make them feel even more uncomfortable sitting them isolated from the other guests.  As soon as Beyonce’s “single ladies” comes on, they are going to be out on the dance floor anyway!  If they are looking to find a match, they will do it that way on the dance floor. They won’t be doing it sitting at an all singles table.

Reception Layout Tips: Nobody Puts DJ in the Corner

[us_separator]

Wenning's Wedding Tip Wednesday

Nobody Puts DJ in the Corner

[us_separator]

Today we will be giving you reception layout tips and how to set up around the DJ and dance floor.

All month long we will be discussing tips for selecting seating arrangements to help layout and explain how to seat guests at your wedding.

This week we will be talking about the room layout of your wedding party.

First of all, give yourself plenty of time to set up the tables and figuring out where everything is going to go.  Meet with the venue coordinator and walk around the event space to see all the possibilities of how things can be laid out. This aspect of your special day could either make or break the experience for everyone in attendance.  Nobody wants to be stuck in the very back corner or right next to the loud speakers.

The layout of the tables is crucial because it depends on where the DJ and the dance floor is setup. You don’t want tables between the speakers and dance floor. You also don’t want any of the speakers near the tables in the event of blowing out your guests ears.  To avoid the stress you should talk to the people in charge of the venue beforehand and ask for tips on the how they think you should setup. More than likely they have done dozens of weddings and will be able to give the perfect setup for what you’re looking for.

Don’t be stressed over your reception layout, they are professionals for a reason and you need to let them do their job.  Ask as many questions as you need till you feel fully satisfied with the game plan.  It will take some weight off of your shoulders when your special day is actually here.  Enjoy your day and let the professionals take over, sit back and relax.

Stay tuned for next Wednesday for more wedding tips to help you make your perfect day complete and stress free!

Reception Layout Tips: Why You Need the Communal Table

Wenning's Wedding Tip Wednesday

Why You Need the Communal Table

[us_separator]

Today we are discussing a new trend, the communal table, perfect for your smaller, intimate sized wedding.

All month long we will be discussing tips for selecting seating arrangements to help layout and explain how to seat guests at your wedding.

This week we will be talking about communal tables.  There are a lot of newer trends to consider depending on the size of your wedding and communal tables can be a really neat element to add to your special day. Having a good reception layout is an important factor to your wedding that many people often overlook , so if your wedding is more intimate in size, this tip will keep you from passing up on a great layout idea for your reception.

These are very long cool tables that everyone gets to sit around to break bread and have a great time.  Communal tables are a great alternative to traditional table settings for small, intimate weddings. This ensures that all your wedding guests feel that they are actually apart of the wedding. Single’s tables are outdated, and communal tables allow everyone to be involved in the reception dinner.

Making a seating chart in advance will help reduce your guest’s anxiety of trying to find a seat.  When you visit your wedding venue, get an idea of how you would to set up everything and bring it up to the coordinator.  Meet with the venue coordinator to discuss what they think would be an appropriate seating layout for what works best.   They are professionals and have done multiple weddings so don’t be afraid to ask for advice on what to do.  Take in consideration the relationships of people and who they sit next to.

Communal Tables are perfect for weddings that are smaller than the national average.  Go with something new and trendy and try out the communal tables!

Bridal Show Expectations: Avoid Being Overwhelmed

[us_separator]

Wenning's Wedding Tip Wednesday

[us_separator]

Okay, so you’re at the show, now what?  Don’t be afraid to use the word “NO”. Vendors are going to approach you, ask you opening questions and try to get you to sign up at their booth.  It is perfectly okay to tell a vendor “NO” if you are not interested.  They won’t take it personal and they will move onto the next person.  Going to every vendor one-by-one is extremely time consuming and will make the whole process overwhelming.

A useful tip to follow is, when a vendor you’re not interested in gives you a pamphlet, give it to one of the people you brought with you to put it in their bag.  When you find a vendor that you are interested in, put their pamphlet in your own “YES” bag.  Once you and your guests are leaving, have the others throw their bags away.  That way you will go home with vendors pamphlets that you actually want to look into and possibly book for the future instead of being overwhelmed by every single pamphlet.
